First and foremost, on behalf of AUSCI – The Trojan family of Indonesia, I would like to wish all alumni and friends who celebrate Idul Fitri a most blessed IED! May you and loved ones be blessed after observing the holy month of Ramadhan. And Happy Holidays for ALL Trojans and friends!
As I write this, the London Olympics 2012 have just been concluded. The final tally points out the following:
- 41 Trojans competed in London Olympics 2012
- USC athletes won 12 GOLD medals, which would have placed “Trojan-nation” as the 6th “country” in gold-medal count.
- USC athletes won a total of 25 MEDALS; the MOST medal-count of any US university!
- If USC had competed as a country, they would have placed 11th OVERALL in the London Olympics medal standings.
Put it simply, USC is NUMERO UNO at the London Olympics amongst all US universities.
TROJANS (indeed) RULE!
We have remained busy with various events and efforts in 2012 thus far, but apparently we still have not-one-but-two BIG events in Indonesia for the remainder of this year!
1. The USC Marshall Pacific Rim Business Forum, October 18 – 20 in Bali.
The USC Marshall School of Business through CIBER – Center for International Business and The IBEAR MBA Program is going to host the inaugural Marshall Pacific Rim Business Forum in Bali.
Here is a statement from Dr. Richard Drobnick an esteemed USC faculty member and Marshall School Business Director when was asked a question:
“Why did Marshall chose Indonesia as THE 1st PLACE in Asia to inaugurate this biennial forum ? ”
Dr. Drobnick : “Our choice to launch the forum in Indonesia is because our view is that AUSCI is the BEST ORGANIZED USC Alumni Association and that AUSCI would be a very reliable partner for CIBER-IBEAR to work with in producing the forum”.
Join 250 alumni and friends from AROUND THE WORLD for the inaugural Marshall Pacific Rim Business Forum. The honorable speakers to speak at our Plenary Session Oct 18 – Welcome dinner are Ibu Mari Pangestu, Ambassador Scot Marciel, and Ambassador Dino Djalal
2. 2012 AUSCI Ball
Erik Setiawan class of 1994 and Albert Zhu class of 2003, are leading a team to host a new-fresh coming back of our annual “Talk Of The Town” event – USC Ball.

IMPACT!
AUSCI’s impact continues with yet another cohort of the new USC Goodwill Ambassadors for Indonesia. This summer we have 14 Ambassadors who were “born” through another successful MISIP (Marshall International Summer Internship Program) Indonesia program by the USC Marshall School of Business. MISIP Indonesia was first launched in 2011, and it has helped introduce Indonesia in a positive light in the eyes of these young world citizens. Combined with 13 Ambassadors from last year MISIP, we now have 27 amazingly bright young “Ambassadors,” who can share what Indonesia is all about. From my first-hand conversations and interactions with these interns, they really did have a good time in our country! All 27 testified that they have acquired a (mostly) positive life-changing experience since they first stepped foot in Jakarta, with all of them knowing the meaning of “macet” and “jam karet” within their first week here. They have also had some intriguing adventures throughout; such as exploring Jakarta to its corners, experiencing the culture of Jogjakarta, and of-course, living it up in the “always happening” Bali. Some of them also had the opportunity to enjoy working trips to Sumatera, Kalimantan – sponsored by their company host.
I believe these new goodwill Ambassadors for Indonesia have gone through a new life-experience. Their fresh views and funny stories about everyday things have helped me appreciate how blessed we are to be living in Indonesia, with all its good and bad.
These interns were here to take up jobs in 11 different host-organizations, one of which was the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. Ibu Mari Pangestu took the time to spend our last night with the MISIP interns, USC Freshmen, and USC parents at our SCend Off party. As one of the MISIP hosts at the Ministry, Ibu Mari conveyed her satisfaction with the quality of the USC interns that had done actual work during her two months at the Ministry.
I would also like to thank my good friend, and esteemed vice-chairman of the AUSCI Advisory Board Suko Sosrodjojo, who also presides as the chair and sponsor of the MISIP Indonesia program. Without his stellar leadership, the MISIP Indonesia program would not have taken off to its current success.
For all 14 New MISIP-Indonesia Ambassadors, let me wish you guys and gals the very best in your journey ahead, and we Thank You for your visit to Indonesia.
Last but not least, to all Trojans reading this, we look forward to meet YOU at:
- The USC Marshall Pacific Rim Business Forum in BALI, 18-20 October 2012 www.marshallpacrimforum.com
- AUSCI Ball on 23 November 2012, at the Grand Hyatt Jakarta.
Fight On!
