It's May and we are almost in the middle of 2012. Our alumni club had a board meeting on April 18th 2012 and we are glad to report the following:
We now have 3 non-Jakarta chapters:
BANDUNG = Arifin Tjandra (USC class of 1991)
SURABAYA = Yuliana Leony (USC class of 1997)
BALI = William Sutioso (USC class of 2005)
If you are a Trojan reading this from OTHER Indonesian cities, and would like to start an AUSCI chapter in your city, please contact novita.melani@ausci.org and let's get the Trojan Family Network activated across the Indonesian archipelago !
With AUSCI's reputation as a can-do organization, and tremendous leadership of alumni like Suko Sosrodjojo (class of 95), Indonesia has been chosen as the destination of three important USC initiatives:
The LINC program
The intern program
The Marshall conference in Bali
All the above activities are important, because they help introduce and expose Indonesia to the international arena. In the case of the intern programs, these 20+ international USC students will spend more than 6 weeks in our country.
Last year's inaugural batch had amazing experience here, and they've effectively become "ambassadors" for Indonesia. Let's keep such programs going, helping expose a positive Indonesia to the world, through the global Trojan Family Network.
NEW LEADERS SOUGHT
AUSCI hosted our Board Meeting last month. In that meeting, we had a reorganization of all the Boards governing AUSCI (please click here for the Advisory, Supervisory and Executive Committee list for 2012). I am in my LAST term with AUSCI's Executive Committee through 2014, and my NUMBER 1 PRIORITY now is to ensure a proper election done in late 2013, and have a group of NEW Leaders step in and bring AUSCI to greater new heights.
ARE YOU what AUSCI is looking for? Please start your grooming as future AUSCI's leaders, by being active NOW. AUSCI is the ONLY overseas alumni organization which has a GUARANTEED back-office to support the committee's meetings and consequent events/activitities. Step up to the plate, and let's move forward, for the Trojan Family Network in Indonesia and beyond.
Please JOIN US and let's KEEP THIS GOOD THING GOING.

CONDOLENCES
It is with a heavy heart that I ask for every alumni to pray for the recently departed senior USC alumni Dr. Wid (Widjajono Partowidagdo), USC PhD. 1987 the Vice Minister of Energy and Minerals for Indonesia. Dr. Wid was one of the most humble and intellectual person that I've had a chance to have conversations with. May God bless his soul and strengthen those left behind.
Last but not least, I would like to report the progress of AUSCI's small CSV (creating shared value) program = "Running for Reading Rooms" or R3. USC alumnae Vanessa Fu started the R3 ball rolling by participating in her first marathon this past February at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong marathon. Not only did she complete her first marathon, her boyfriend proposed to her at the 42.2km finish line ! And in the process, Vanessa raised enough money to ensure at least 2 (two) more CerdasBang! libraries are built.
Encouraged and inspired by Vanessa, I signed up for the first International Marathon in Indonesia at the "BII Maybank BALI Marathon." I showed up at the starting line on April 22nd in Ubud/Bali, and after a gruelling 6 hours 28 minutes (full story HERE), I finally crossed the finish line of 42.2 km. In the process, we (AUSCI) secured enough commitments to build/renovate 13 (thirteen) NEW CerdasBang! libraries in the primary schools of Sleman, Central Java (earthquake & volcano-dust stricken).
So Trojans, ALL THINGS are possible! We USC alumni are armed with a good education, we have a solid network, and we are aided by super administrator Novita Melani.
What more can you ask for from your alumni club? It's time we ask YOU to step up to the plate. Let's keep this going, because this is OUR alumni club. Please contact me or ANY of the committee member listed, on how you can also be active in AUSCI.
Fight On!
